11. Festivals for Age Grade (Tag) Rugby Rules

Festivals for Age Grade (Tag) Rugby Rules

U7 & U8 Festival Overview
Festivals take priority over training for the U7 and U8 teams.

 • These provide valuable match experience
 • There are no winners or losers—development-focused play
 • U6s are not permitted to play competitive tag games (RFU Reg 15)
 • U8s play on larger pitches with 6-player teams; U7s play with 4 players

U6 competitive training may be arranged collaboratively with other clubs.
Festival start times vary—please arrive early. Details posted via team chat as Warning Orders.

Travel – RFU Safeguarding Policy
Travel protocols remain as previously outlined.
Coach preference is for family support at festivals—this fosters confidence and practical growth. Please plan ahead to attend.

Festival Administration

 • Coach team departs early to set up
 • Pitch plans and BRFC flags will identify team spots
 • Post travel updates in team chat if delays occur
 • Parking may be limited—early arrival advised
 • Refreshments available, venue-dependent
 • Weather can be unpredictable—bring waterproofs and warm gear
 • Non-players: welly boots recommended!
 • Pop-up gazebos welcome—space fills quickly
 • Team campsite is for BRFC use during downtime

Note: We are not a creche—parents are responsible for their children between games.
Toilet trips, snack runs, and cross-age pitch support are fine—just inform coaches.

Do not allow players/siblings to wander unattended.

Availability – WhatsApp Poll
Festival attendance is tracked via WhatsApp Polls.
Created at least one week prior to each event.

 • Respond promptly
 • DM or speak directly if known availability before poll launch

Playing Up/Down Age Grades
RFU regulations:

 • U6 cannot play up
 • U7 may play up to U8
 • U8 may play down to U7

Coach decisions are based on:

 • Player development
 • Team needs
 • Skill level—not just availability

Expect variations like mixed teams or adjusted lineups.
We aim for one U7 and one U8 team with half-game rotations. Details shared ahead of each festival.

Reg 15 Tag Rugby Rules

 • No forward passes or offside interceptions
 • No knock-ons—continue if ball is dropped
 • After being tagged: stop, pass, resume play
 • Return tag to opponent politely
 • No stealing, barging, or contact
 • Score tries with two hands, controlled
 • Free pass for leaving play zone
 • Try scored → possession switches teams
 • Games last 10–12 minutes; no scores kept
 • Half time rules apply when feasible

Medals
Medals are awarded for participation, not performance.
We promote effort and learning over medal-focused motivation.

Summary
Coaches will not tolerate poor adult behaviour.
Support your players with TREDS values and respectful sideline conduct.
Encouragement is welcomed—but please don’t drown out coaching instructions.
Acknowledge good play from both teams.
