For the first time in seventeen long years, an old fire is about to be reignited.
This Saturday, at Hampshire Avenue, Bognor Rugby Football Club and Chichester Rugby Football Club meet again, not as strangers, but as rivals who know exactly what this fixture means. The Arun Derby is back, and with it comes pride, memory, and a score that both clubs have waited nearly two decades to settle.
When these two last locked horns in 2008, the world looked very different. Since then, Chichester RFC have climbed, earning their promotions and testing themselves at higher levels, while Bognor RFC have endured darker days, fighting to rebuild what was once feared. Now, history has brought them back together; same league, same river, same rivalry, and once again the O'Hagan's Sausages Sausage Cup is on the line.
Form books and league tables mean little when old enemies meet. Chichester arrive with momentum and experience, and Bognor have their home ground, their crowd, and the memory of battles past. On paper there’s nothing to separate them, but on the pitch, it will be settled the only way rugby knows how; with a complete outpour of blood, sweat and tears!
Expect a crowd that remembers. Expect ex-players who once fought these battles to shake hands, trade stories, and feel the nerves all over again. Above all, expect eighty minutes of raw, uncompromising rugby, where pride outweighs points and bragging rights matter just as much as the result.
Whatever happens, this will be a day to remember! Fierce on the field, respectful off it, and soaked in the history of two clubs bound by rivalry.
Kick-off is at 2pm, and the O’Hagan’s Sausage Cup will be presented by Liam O’Hagan to the winning captain immediately after the final whistle.
This isn’t just another fixture, this is EVERYTHING!
